Fall Creek Valley Middle School is the Spanish Immersion program sight for grades seven and eight. At Fall Creek Valley, students in the Immersion Program from Forest Glen are encouraged to continue their Spanish Language development by electing to take 3 courses each year. Students new to Fall Creek Valley Middle School, though interested in Spanish Immersion courses, will need high levels of Spanish and will need to be assessed upon entry (see assigned counselor).
Fall Creek Valley currently offers Spanish Language Arts (required), Social Studies, and Science in Spanish at both the 7th and 8th grade levels. Students are encouraged to take these courses in the target language verses in English. The Indiana Academic Standards for Language Arts, Science and Social Studies are followed. The materials and resources used for instruction are in the target language. All classroom teachers in the Immersion Program are highly certified and fluent in the language used for instruction. In most classrooms, the teachers are dominant speakers of that language. The teachers not only focus on content and language development, but also incorporate culture and building students multi-cultural perspectives on a daily basis.
The students in the Spanish Immersion program at Fall Creek Valley are using both English and Spanish at very high levels. They are continuing the goals of the district’s Spanish Immersion Program which are to be bilingual and biliterate, to maintain high levels of academic achievement in both languages, and to develop sociocultural competence in all.
